Nityadevi Ramroop
October 31, 2023 - Katy, TX
Age 35
Nityadevi was shot and killed by her ex-husband, after her repeated attempts to have law enforcement take his stalking and abuse seriously. He later killed himself. They had been in a contentious divorce and she was supposed to have a protected address, as she feared for her safety. She had called the police three or four times regarding his stalking, but she was told there was nothing they could do to protect her, her attorney said. After the separation, her husband vandalized her car and would stalk her on multiple occasions. Even though there was footage of the vandalism, police did nothing. When he followed her to a friend’s house and police were called, they said they could not do anything. On a night out with friends, he followed her and dragged her out of her car before a friend had to intervene. She told friends that there had been “years of physical abuse in the marriage”
She filed for divorce and a temporary restraining order in December 2022 and filed a further protective order on October 13, 2023 with the emergency Ex Parte hearing scheduled for November 1st, but was murdered the day before. “Her increasing fear was the trial coming up that he would do something to harm her,” her attorney said. “She was being told by his friends that he was saying some very alarming things.”
The gunman then tried to force his way into the house where the 3 children were, and stabbed Nityadevi’s 25-year-old sister, who survived the attack. Her attorney said that he believes his client, despite showing strength and doing all she could to protect herself, was failed by the system. Nityadevi leaves behind 3 children.
