Open Letter in Support for Amber Heard
“Shame corrodes the very part of us that believes we are capable of change” Brené Brown
WeSpoke signs the Open Letter in Support for Amber Heard
The misinformation about domestic abuse and sexual violence has led to widespread public misunderstanding of how survivors react to abuse.
All victims should be able to report abuse without fear of retaliation or intimidation.
At WeSpoke, we continually witness the oppression of abuse victims, through a coercive system in place to silence women’s voices. Many researchers, such as Professor Joan Meier, have studied and proven that speaking up about abuse will had a detrimental outcome for abuse victims in the judicial system. Divorce attorneys tell their female clients not to bring up abuse as they could lose custody of their children. This is oppression.
We say enough.
We signed, along with hundreds of other experts and organizations, to demand that abuse victims have the right to speak up without public shaming on retaliation.
