Nancy Johnson
September 28, 2023 - Mobile, AL
Age 39
Nancy allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself after, allegedly, cutting her daughter’s throat and then drowning her two children. A month prior, a judge in Utah granted Nancy a protection-from-abuse order against her husband. The next day, the husband filed for a divorce in Mobile, AL. Court documents show the father was trying to get full custody, stating Nancy had “mental health issues.” Just one week prior to her death, her Ex was arrested on domestic violence charges and she obtained a restraining order “out of fear for her life.” However, Nancy’s death was ruled a murder-suicide.

Two postings by her ex husband after her death, a Obituary and Go Fund Me, seemed a little odd, if not creepy. There is a lot of suspicion around her Ex husband’s possible involvement in this murder-suicide, but no charges were filed. Note, that he was the sole witness to discover the bodies.
Nancy’s brother, Fredy Leon, adamantly refutes that Nancy had any mental health issues and that she would never harm her children. You Tube Report and a Reddit thread about the case.
Note, on the rare occasions* when a mother has committed a murder-suicide during separation/divorce, as alleged in this case, we can only assume that it was an act of utter desperation after enduring unbearable conditions that she, and her children, were exposed to in the home and the family court system. WeSpoke does not condone such acts of violence and whilst there is no excuse to take a human life, it is important to include these women as ‘mothers lost’ to the system and men’s control.
* Of the 1,000 children who were murdered by a divorcing/separating parent in the U.S., the killer was 70% Father, 18% Mother, 13% Other. For more statistics and data on children murdered by a separating/divorcing parent, visit Center for Judicial Excellence
